The day the cloud fell down from the sky

No image manipulation took place in this photo ^^ I'd taken several pictures of Moll on the fence before I noticed the small white fluffy thing!

I've redesigned the background image and the links buttons at dollseye.com. I know the last few entries in this diary have been all about Moll, it seems always to be her who comes out on trips. I used a recent photo of Nat for the new site design though, I took her out as well that day.

I thought I'd try something different for the 'gallery' page on the site. Instead of being a collection of mostly unrelated images I'm going to try using the gallery sometimes for a themed series of images and sometimes a selection from a whole shoot.

I hope you like the new site design - http://www.dollseye.com

I haven't updated the links page for quite a while. If there's anyone out there who'd like to exchange links with me please let me know. You're welcome to leave a link to your site in the comments here.

Eudaemon's zebra crossing

I made these images because I wanted to find out more about photographing Eudaemon and as I was doing them I was aware that I was thinking about Svankmajer's Alice (especially the drawer in the dresser) and also Greenaway's 'Zed & Two Noughts' which is another one of my favourite movies. The whole reason for getting the zebra was to remind me of that film. The zebra for me generally symbolises all the opposites, black and white, life and death, beginning and end.

It's always fun playing with reflections, mirrors are such good props for creating some meaning. So is the eye, of course, which Eudaemon is still holding. She's wearing the red one in these which she was holding before, she changed it round and now she's holding one of the blue eyes that she was wearing in the previous pictures. I should think things would look very different if they were perceived through a red eye immediately after looking through a blue one.

The images mean quite a lot to me, I mean narratively, but I don't want to be a picture bore so I'll just leave it there and hope they're open to different interpretations for different people.

Eudaemon and the leaves of glass

Eudaemon means 'good spirit' which is open to a few different interpretations which I like. It also sounds like Anglo Saxon names with the 'dae' in the middle and the 'mon' at the end. It's her new name, derived from U-Da, the head's generic name that I also quite like. Eudaemon just arrived today thanks to a friend, who sent her to me with a ring which I discovered later while I was putting the box away. I think it's a good omen to find a ring in a box which travelled with a head over a large expanse of water....

The backgrounds (glass leaves and the grey stone one which is actually the floorcloth for another background) were painted by bjdbackgrounds. For the glass leaves background I just asked for broken shards for leaves, the interpretation was Mary's when she made the painting.

red dress... Hyun-Mu

First I want to say thanks loads to the people who left comments on my previous entry. I really appreciated them a lot.

The inspiration for these photos came from a great friend who sent me a red dress for my recent birthday (the dress was intended to be worn either by Hyun-Mu or Deep Sorrow) and although I've never imagined Hyun-Mu in anything other than the clothes and incredible pointy shoes she arrived in, I was in the mood this afternoon to see what happened if she got changed into the red dress...

Other news is that I'm going to be one of the judges in the Haute Doll travel photo contest this year and I'm really excited about it. I love the idea of setting up doll photos all over the place - the 'landscape' has to be the best possible photo 'studio'. I think the summer light brings lots of potential - and I can't wait to see the photos people are taking for the contest - here's the url for the details about the contest: http://www.hautedoll.com/contests.php
