The Priest and his children
It's been weeks since I picked up the dolls and took some photos and that's made me feel quite sad. So yesterday I found some time and we all went outside for a while to the place where I like taking pictures because there's lots of grass and it makes a change from our own back yard.
I've been wanting to see the priest in a skirt for ages! Next I want to see Priest and Pascal in some skirts with the Strangedolls and to call them 'widows and orphans'..
If you're interested in seeing more pictures of the priest with 2 of his bloody children on the freshly updated gallery page, please click this link - http://www.dollseye.com If you can still see Moll at the top of the page on the site, please reload the page because I've only just changed the pictures ^_^

So how do YOU feel about these, J? They are dark and evocative in the way that dark things often are...and your skill and artistry take them, of course, into such a top shelf place...and yet the dolls themselves hold the images in a place of adult/childhood-ness that could only be obtained through use of this type of doll....it's truly amazing. Truly. Amazing.
I love your work.

Well, I've been replying lately by email only but I'll try writing some replies in the diary again. Z, I wanted to answer your comment here..
To be honest, I hadn't stopped and thought about them being exceptionally dark, I was afraid that they might be overly conventional, actually, with the blood.. maybe it's because I've been looking at such a lot of imagery lately by fine artists, I think it's having some kind of an influence. I guess that's bound to happen and I do think I needed to be kicked out of the fairly safe place I'd got myself into.
Thanks a lot for your support Z, I hope I can continue to work with fewer restraints again in the future!

"Fairly safe place". How can you say that? The photos are beautiful. Not exceptionally dark but certainly dark enough to be intriguing. Dark enough that with the right imagination they can be quite disturbing (or not). Isn't that what art is suppose to be. "Eye of the beholder"?
Who would have guessed that Priest would look so well in a skirt!

Karin, you saw him.. and you didn't yell 'sacrilegious woman making that man wear a skirt'! Phew.. but no really, glad you thought he looks ok in the photos. I think I had a mental block with him, he's always been such a definite character in my mind and I was afraid to change him.
"Fairly safe place" - I've always found my photos on the cuteness side of where I really wanted to be and I've never been too sure how to change that..

The Priest is quickly becoming my favorite dollseye character. You do him justice.

Thanks Nicky! I've seen people use the phrase 'grail doll' and that's what he is to me, so it's good to know that you like what I'm doing with him.

I like the top one more than the bottom one. The bottom one looks a little more mundane. I don't know. To me the second doesn't look all that out of place. The second I like the forced perspective.
On one of the Flickr groups, with the dithering and stupid crap (censorship threads) they have a saying there. And I think it fits macabely here VERY well, because the poor little children in the top look like they are being rolled away. "What about the children?" HEH. What about them indeed?

The second photo was taken with a telephoto lens from such a long way away I couldn't even see his face any more. I was surprised that he was looking straight into the lens when I saw him. I wonder if that's what you meant by 'forced perspective', your language is getting so flickr photo expert technical I guess I have to figure out what you meant!

I think Priest is incredibly sexy in this outfit - I absolutely adore this look and the black wig. He has such presence. My favourite pictures are the first one here - I love that glance away - and the sunflower one with that gorgeous bright yellow contrasting with the blackest black. ♥ ♥

PS: And I love "scottish widow" ^___^

hey lynnie - I was going to include 'scottish widow' in the title but then I figured that many people may not get such an obscure reference!
I like the black wig too. I had such a mental block about changing him, but I'm glad I did now.

I love them.....the first one is just so perfectly eerie with the perspective. Priest's head angle mirroring the branches, and the feeling that he has just rescued the Strangedolls from a horrible plight.
I adore the second, he almost looks like he's thinking "wtf have I got myself into?"
