pinhole photography & site gallery update
I think doing experimental photography is fun. I've been using Photoshop for 12 years now and I really do believe that there are some processes that can't be replicated digitally. Pinhole photography is definitely one of them. I did some street photography yesterday with a pinhole camera and the sun was out a little bit. Four minute exposures yesterday. These two photos I did this afternoon. It was very overcast and grey today. One hour exposures. Wow. These are much softer than yesterday's pictures too. But I think they're quite interesting?
I changed the photos in the gallery just now. Some were taken in the summer of this year, some are more recent. There are quite a few of Moll Cutpurse and Timothy Leary, one of Eudaemon and a couple of Cardinal Sin and a horse..and a window..

I've got 2 photos of Poppé here in the diary. The first one was taken in summer this year (the little robin was a baby then) and the second one was taken yesterday. I'm 90% certain that this is the same robin, it's grown up now. There's a colour version of the summer photo among the newly updated gallery photos. There are a few dolls I take out but by some strange coincidence the robin always appears when I'm out with Poppé.... XD
As this is the last entry for 2007, I want to wish everyone a happy new year and thanks for reading my diary through 2007 ^_^

Loving the very first one - so contrasty and moody :)
The little Robin is so cute - how peculiar for him to appear around the same doll - this is what I love about your photos, there is always more to it then meets the eye, it's like opening a very old book full of nostalgia and memories.
Happy New Year to you too and hope to see lots of new images in your diary in the new year too xxx

That first one makes the priest look as if he's very moody doesn't it! Like he's locked up in a cell with a small square window above and a wall and not much else!
The robin is really adorable. We hadn't seen it for a while but it can be recognised by it's funny habits - and when you really look at them robins do look different from each other in size, head shape, colouring etc...
Thanks Y. I liked what you said very much!

These came out very interesting looking. So you have an old pinhole camera or are you doing it another way? I would personally love to see your street photography (as you know SP fascinates me).

Wow, I love the stark contrast of the pictures! Makes me remember when we learned how to do pinhole pictures back in Basic Photography years ago. You're soooo right, there are some things that just can't be recreated digitally and this is one of them!

Mercy, I've got some hand-made pinhole cameras. One is a hat box, another is a biscuit tin and another is just a square box made from chipboard. We've been making them and testing them out. I set up a temporary darkroom in the walk-in cupboard in the hall to process the images. The pictures were all made without any lenses, just with photo paper.
Thanks, it's good to know that you found them interesting.
There were a few people in the street, but even with short exposures like 4 minutes, the people don't show up cos they were moving around.
I'm sending you a couple of urls so that you can see, they're just photos taken in a street, not what I'd call 'street photography'!

hey nikita ~ since I changed my job in feb this year, I've had the opportunity to rediscover darkroom work and some of the old techniques. I'd like to have another go at making pinhole photos in the summer when there's a lot more light around, to see if the results are any different, or just shorter exposure times. It's quite hard to improve the compositions etc. when I have to do one hour exposures and there's only about 5 or 6 hours total of low winter light in a day. But I'm really enjoying making the pinhole photos. I've always loved experimental photography.
