Chloe
One day no doubt she'll have a name change....I don't have any imaginings in my brain right now for thinking of names....and there's something I quite like about the name chloe...
Thanks to the people who've left comments in my diary, I appreciate them very much.
credits: thanks to Karin for painting Chloe's face and thanks to Mary for the backdrop painting.

pinhole photography & site gallery update
I think doing experimental photography is fun. I've been using Photoshop for 12 years now and I really do believe that there are some processes that can't be replicated digitally. Pinhole photography is definitely one of them. I did some street photography yesterday with a pinhole camera and the sun was out a little bit. Four minute exposures yesterday. These two photos I did this afternoon. It was very overcast and grey today. One hour exposures. Wow. These are much softer than yesterday's pictures too. But I think they're quite interesting?
I changed the photos in the gallery just now. Some were taken in the summer of this year, some are more recent. There are quite a few of Moll Cutpurse and Timothy Leary, one of Eudaemon and a couple of Cardinal Sin and a horse..and a window..
Here's the link - http://www.dollseye.com
I've got 2 photos of Poppé here in the diary. The first one was taken in summer this year (the little robin was a baby then) and the second one was taken yesterday. I'm 90% certain that this is the same robin, it's grown up now. There's a colour version of the summer photo among the newly updated gallery photos. There are a few dolls I take out but by some strange coincidence the robin always appears when I'm out with Poppé.... XD
As this is the last entry for 2007, I want to wish everyone a happy new year and thanks for reading my diary through 2007 ^_^

random collection of recent images
One day I'll have time to make some new work and I can't put into words how much I'm looking forward to doing that. While some of my friends on the internet are getting into some dead serious shit with dolls who look like real people, my dolls seem to be becoming more and more doll-like at the same time as becoming increasingly dysfunctional.
As I wait for the time to come when my working life changes and I can return to working on my own stuff again sometime in 2008, sometimes I find a half hour here and there to make images. I didn't want November to come and go without putting anything into the diary so here are a few things.
The images with the pig came partly from the memory of a recurring nightmare I had as a young child of pigs being slaughtered in the basement of an art gallery. But they also came from a story in my mind about a sculpture which came to life while it was being carved.
Some people might remember that I used to make pictures of dolls doing pig-riding quite a lot and there's something about that in these as well. There are others in the series which need to be edited and no doubt this pig will be ridden by others in the future!
4 moody pictures of Estella...
and one of the Cardinal accompanied by a small stuffed rabbit...
As always, please click them all to see the large versions ^_^

The Priest and his children
It's been weeks since I picked up the dolls and took some photos and that's made me feel quite sad. So yesterday I found some time and we all went outside for a while to the place where I like taking pictures because there's lots of grass and it makes a change from our own back yard.
I've been wanting to see the priest in a skirt for ages! Next I want to see Priest and Pascal in some skirts with the Strangedolls and to call them 'widows and orphans'..
If you're interested in seeing more pictures of the priest with 2 of his bloody children on the freshly updated gallery page, please click this link - http://www.dollseye.com If you can still see Moll at the top of the page on the site, please reload the page because I've only just changed the pictures ^_^

dolls & trains
Some photos of Edgy Touchwood and Moll Cutpurse watching and waiting in the late summer sunshine for the bright green trains on the central line.
I've made a series of photos of Edgy and Moll at the station, there are these 2 here in the diary and I've changed the gallery page on the dollseye site and put the rest there. Please go there if you'd like to see more of them ^_^ http://www.dollseye.com

The day the cloud fell down from the sky
No image manipulation took place in this photo ^^ I'd taken several pictures of Moll on the fence before I noticed the small white fluffy thing!
I've redesigned the background image and the links buttons at dollseye.com. I know the last few entries in this diary have been all about Moll, it seems always to be her who comes out on trips. I used a recent photo of Nat for the new site design though, I took her out as well that day.
I thought I'd try something different for the 'gallery' page on the site. Instead of being a collection of mostly unrelated images I'm going to try using the gallery sometimes for a themed series of images and sometimes a selection from a whole shoot.
I hope you like the new site design - http://www.dollseye.com
I haven't updated the links page for quite a while. If there's anyone out there who'd like to exchange links with me please let me know. You're welcome to leave a link to your site in the comments here.

Eudaemon and the leaves of glass
Eudaemon means 'good spirit' which is open to a few different interpretations which I like. It also sounds like Anglo Saxon names with the 'dae' in the middle and the 'mon' at the end. It's her new name, derived from U-Da, the head's generic name that I also quite like. Eudaemon just arrived today thanks to a friend, who sent her to me with a ring which I discovered later while I was putting the box away. I think it's a good omen to find a ring in a box which travelled with a head over a large expanse of water....
The backgrounds (glass leaves and the grey stone one which is actually the floorcloth for another background) were painted by bjdbackgrounds. For the glass leaves background I just asked for broken shards for leaves, the interpretation was Mary's when she made the painting.

red dress... Hyun-Mu
First I want to say thanks loads to the people who left comments on my previous entry. I really appreciated them a lot.
The inspiration for these photos came from a great friend who sent me a red dress for my recent birthday (the dress was intended to be worn either by Hyun-Mu or Deep Sorrow) and although I've never imagined Hyun-Mu in anything other than the clothes and incredible pointy shoes she arrived in, I was in the mood this afternoon to see what happened if she got changed into the red dress...
Other news is that I'm going to be one of the judges in the Haute Doll travel photo contest this year and I'm really excited about it. I love the idea of setting up doll photos all over the place - the 'landscape' has to be the best possible photo 'studio'. I think the summer light brings lots of potential - and I can't wait to see the photos people are taking for the contest - here's the url for the details about the contest: http://www.hautedoll.com/contests.php

Scarlet as 'Mother Hood' & a couple of Koo
I'm making a new series called 'Mother Hood' which as usual can be about anything the viewer wants it to be but to me it's about rites of passage (the markers and rituals denoting different stages of life), perceptions of the transitions between different ages particularly baby/child/adult and it's also about an empty pram and all the connotations there can be of a possessive mother with this empty object on wheels. I've got quite a few pictures for this series but I've only managed to edit 2 of the photos so far because I'm still working a lot on other things so I'm a bit short of time to put into my own work for a while, which is a bit frustrating because I seem to have a lot of ideas and not enough time to do very much with them.
I've had lots of requests for more photos of the beautiful Koo doll so here he is too ^_^

Happy Easter Everyone *_*

Like a knight from an old fashioned book
I have saved all my ribbons with thee.

The doll with the incredibly pointy shoes (& ears)
...I took quite a few photos of Moll while we were out this afternoon as well as Hyun-Mu. This picture reminded me of when you lie down in a field of cows and fall asleep then when you wake up they're all staring at you. Except there are only a couple of daffs in this photo, but it still made me think of the cows *_*

one for the 'be my puppet' series & one of the cardinal
The rusty contraption the Cardinal is reaching out for is an extremely old sheep shearing tool. But he changed his mind about getting a hair cut *_*
Thanks a lot for the comments people have been leaving in my diary. Apologies for being a bit hit and miss with my replies. The holidays begin in a couple of days and I really like this time of year. Rabbits and chicks and things.

Moll, Bird & The Cardinal
Just a little note - it was mothers day in the uk today and after being out all day I noticed a few emails/comments in my inbox when I got back, which I'll reply to really soon (as well as those I've had for about a week..) so please don't anybody think I'm ignoring you, my life is just a bit manic right now ^_^;
The Cardinal and Bird came out for the day and when we got there I noticed that Moll had sneaked herself out as well... oh dear... it's a dilemma deciding what to do with 2 big guys and a small girl...

The Priest
Thanks to my friend, who said 'he's an old soul'. I always think of that phrase when I look at him. He's an old soul who comes with a lot of very interesting baggage. I've always thought he's a fascinating character. What an honour to have him staying here.

voices for marshmallow
Working on some new ideas, this is an image from one of the series of new works I'm making.
More pictures from this series are coming soon I hope!
We've also started a new animation. Gone are the days when we tried to keep the file size around ONE meg per movie (as in the flash movies we made a few years ago). Now the limit is more like 100 megs per movie for youtube, it takes much longer to make.

Ballerina Moll
My mother in law's sister, Wendy, painted the picture of the ballerina in the first picture - it was a present for when she came out of hospital. Moll's hair came from bittenbefore (bittenbefore.com) who makes the best fur wigs I've ever seen.

Moll came here yesterday ^_^
She looks so much like Yeondu and even more miserable.
I waited a long time for her.
Very glad she's here at last.
I hope you like her.
Seems like the bad days are gone and there's some good luck coming around (not just for me I hope).

Nat, Isa, Scarlet & the hare
Just a bit of an update from recent photos I've uploaded to Flickr.
I'm still working with the clay but it takes a long time to make a whole doll, it's much easier just to make lots of heads! Right now there are little heads all over the place. I like making heads and very much dislike making the bodies. I do have one whole one that's almost complete, she should be done by the middle of next week :). I'd like to try and make a ball jointed doll soon, maybe in a month or two I'll feel ready to start one. I'm not interested in casting dolls in resin though. I like the rawness of the clay.

Scarlet
A few people have asked me if the diary is going to be running again. I've just been taking a break to try out a few different things. I'd like to get the diary going again, so I'll try and post something once or twice a week now.
The comments thing will be turned off for a while because although I like and appreciate them very much, it's not always possible to respond to them.
I've been playing with some clay, making heads and this is going to occupy a lot of my spare time for a while. Some progress pictures will be coming soon. In the meantime, here's a photo of Scarlet that I took yesterday.
